Summit 2010-2011 is in full swing! Seniors, start the countdown!
Summit has an enrollment of approximately 2450 students, this academic year. We have a few new staff and each has quickly adapted to the Summit family. We welcome the expertise that they add to an already talented staff. Our class of 2014 has also made a smooth transition to Summit and seem to possess a contagious positive energy. Sophomores have matured, Juniors have gained a greater confidence, and Seniors are the proud leaders of their underclassmen, serving as role-models to doing things, The Summit Way.
The new academic year has brought a few procedural changes to the campus. With safety first and foremost in mind, students must carry their student IDs at all times, to help verify that they belong on campus. We ensure that students carry IDs by requiring students to show them before buying lunch. Students who forget, must fill out a temporary ID slip. Also, students must wear a hall pass, which hangs on an orange lanyard when they leave class for any reason. Groups of students who have business outside of classrooms, during class, wear picture IDs on color-coded lanyards: ASB, blue; Office assistants, yellow; Yearbook, red; etc. Security Officers have been able to focus on securing the campus with few interruptions due to students and teachers supporting the new hall pass system.
To further promote campus security, we ask that visitors and parents who have school business during school hours, park in the south parking lot. The south parking lot has access to the main office without the need to walk on campus (all visitors to the campus, must secure a Visitors Pass, issued by the main office). The north parking lot is reserved for staff and students with a parking permit. Please note that parking restrictions are in effect only during school hours.
I would like to take this time to invite you to upcoming events including many sports events. Check out the Athletics page of our website to get schedules of all of our sports teams. Football season promises to be exciting and all the teams are in need of fan support. Many activities will be centered on the football games and students will enjoy their friends in a safe, secure environment. We hope that students get involved in as many events as possible, to enhance their school experience. We also hope that parents participate in school-wide activities to promote student support and to strengthen the Summit community.
Enjoy all the planned school activities and feel free to walk up and introduce yourself to me. I would love to get to know all of you.
See you soon,
