Dear FOHI Family:
“Race to the Top” is a current catch-phrase that is popular in education. At Fontana High School, we are not just racing to the top we are also racing to the end of the school year. In the coming days and weeks, we will see a flurry of activity that will lead to commencement for our graduating seniors, and the end of the school year for both students and staff.
It has been a great year for Steelers. We have seen growth in participation in Advanced Placement classes, and our AVID College Preparatory Program has been recognized as one of the best programs in the country. Many of our students and their parents have been visiting colleges and making plans for next year. In the world of sports, our soccer, girls’ water polo and volleyball team made it to the play-offs and many of our other athletes won individual honors for their play on, and off, the field. Our Health Science Pathway, Clinical Nursing Assistant Program, MJROTC Program, Welding and Woodworking Programs received recognition for the outstanding achievement of their students. Many of our students have excelled in their classes, in extra-curricular events and in sports that we all have much to be proud of and to celebrate.
But the coming weeks cannot be just about celebration. Real honors come by focusing until the end, running fast until you break the tape at the end of the race. I encourage everyone to continue to make every day count—come to school every day, ready to learn. Work hard in class, get those papers written, put in a bit of extra study time. This extra work will serve you in the future and will show that the name “Steelers” comes from the steel will we all can exhibit.
Let’s all work together to have a good, and safe close of the school year. I look forward to seeing you at our Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the Citizens Business Bank Arena located at 4000 E. Ontario Center Parkway, Ontario, CA 91764.
