Dear Rebel Families:
This month our Miller campus is focused on our upcoming WASC visit February 21-24, 2010. WASC stands for Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is what makes your student’s high school diploma valid and accepted through the country. For the past two years our teachers and staff along with students and community members have conducted a self evaluation of AB Miller. This report is then submitted to a committee of visiting educators for evaluation and resulting accreditation.
One of the first steps in our report is to clearly define our vision of our school, what our mission is and what it is we want our students to learn at AB Miller. Our staff, students and community have established the following vision and mission for our school.
Vision
“Students excelling in Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Academies”
Mission
“To provide a challenging standards-based curriculum in a safe, supportive environment that encourages creative expression and exploration of life options and that prepares students from all backgrounds to become productive and responsible members of society.”
As we prepare for our visit and await feedback on our school’s action plan, we ask that you take time to discuss both the vision and mission with your student. It is important for our students to know that high school is certainly about academics, but it is also about preparation for their future; whatever they choose that future to be.
Partners in Education,
Heather Griggs
Principal, AB Miller
