Dear Miller Students and Families:

We have been working all summer preparing for your return and making many improvements to our campus and programs.  I am certain you have heard by now that we are offering a 7 period day and extending instruction until 2:55 pm.  By doing this we will offer our students many opportunities for additional enrichment classes such as dance, masonry, academic decathlon or extended Advanced Placement courses.  We will also be able to offer our students time during the school day for additional help in classes they are struggling with or to make up classes.  Our teachers are committed to helping your student maximize their learning at A.B. Miller.

Freshman, you are invited to come to campus on Thursday, August 5th for a special orientation just for freshman.  You will get your ID’s (which all students wear daily at A.B. Miller), your textbooks and a preview of your classes.  Upperclassmen from the Link Crew and Peer Leadership will help you find your classrooms and give you the inside scoop on A.B. Miller from a student’s perspective.  We are looking forward to meeting the class of 2014.  We also have several special events just for our freshman…
  • September 3rd is Freshman Free Night at our first home football game of the season, bring your ID and come to the game for free.
  • September 20th is Freshman Free afternoon at our home volleyball game vs Kaiser High School, bring your 9th grade ID and receive a hotdog, drink and chips during the game for free.
Watch every month for more Freshman only events.  Welcome to our class of 2014.

Sophomores, as experienced high school students this year is the time for you to focus on demonstrating proficiency on the CAHSEE.  Your High School Exit Exam is scheduled for March 8th and 9th.  Make sure you save these dates now and begin to prepare.  We are arranging special classes during the day as well as afternoon and weekend “CAHSEE BOOT CAMPS” just before the exam to help you prepare.  See your counselor to take a  CASHEE class, sign up for boot camp, take home a review book or  many other options we have available to help you get ready.

Juniors…this is your year to solidify and implement your plans for after high school.    We have several options to assist you. Make your plans now for the ACT, SAT, ASVAB and NCAA clearinghouse.  If you need help with any of these; our counselor or the career tech in the library can help you access whatever you will need.  You will also need to see them to understand the specific requirement for whatever path you have chosen.  Jostens will be at school on September 9th to assist you in preplanning for your senior year.

Seniors….as you begin your final year of high school make sure you are committing yourself to do whatever it takes for you to graduate on time.  The senior year seems to go by the quickest and graduation will be here before you know it.  Our first senior activity of the year will begin before school even starts on August 3rd or 4th when the class of 2011 returns to campus early for yearbook poses.  Please make your appointment through ASB.

We are looking forward  to seeing all our students on August 9th by 7:15 am for a 7:30 am first period start time.
