Thank you volunteers!!!!!

We love the AmeriCorps CalPrep program that connects mentors and tutors with students.  Thank you to the Inland Empire United Way for making this program possible.

Thanks to each member of the team, under the leadership of Yesenia Gomez, our students are making tremendous strides along their individual journeys to college and career.

Quotes from two of the mentors illustrate the commitment of our volunteers to making a difference in the lives of our students.

Erick Chung, mentor

“Thus far, it has been a great experience.  I had the opportunity to meet many mentors and students who are serious about turning their life around for better purposes.”

Olegario (FAS Alumni c/o 2014) mentor

This program it’s amazing, it can help many other students who think school is not important. Maybe because school is boring, or maybe because probably people put them down and told them that are not good enough for society. That’s wrong, I was one of them I was told by some teachers and some students that I would turn out to be a no body in life. I love my life and how I live it, we all have a different mindset and we are no one to judge others, that best we can do is help instead of hurt. So I hope this program stays open for much more many years, to help others.”

Happy AmeriCorps Week to Yesenia and all her volunteers!

College Fair

Yesterday students and staff had the opportunity to participate in a college fair on campus.  Students reported the fair was very informative.

Earth Day Celebration

A huge thank you to Robert Larsen (Instructor), Katie Heer (Inland Empire Resource Conservation District-IERCD) Project Manager, Anthony Lardieri (Grounds) and our students for making April a time to celebrate the amazing beauty of local, native flora that help conserve water.

Earlier in April, Katie Heer gave a presentation about the benefits of using local native plants for landscaping.  According to one participant, "It was very interesting.  I didn't think they would be as beautiful as they are.  When I have my own home I will definitely use these plants rather than the other ones."

April 30th-planting day-was filled with anticipation and excitement.  Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, visitors will be greeted by a variety of local plants rather than dirt and weeds.

A huge congratulations to Robert Larsen for writing a successful grant application.  We look forward to seeing the plants take root and flourish in the upcoming months.
