Dear Oleander Students and Family Members,
Good things continue to happen at our school! On August 31, 2011, the California Department of Education released the Accountability Process Report and I am pleased to say that Oleander continues to excel. Our score on the Academic Performance Index (API) improved from 818 to 841, a growth of 23 points. Our school met all 17 Adequate Yearly Progress criteria. In Language Arts, 59% of our students scored Advanced or Proficient on the California Standards Test, a growth of 4.7% from the previous year. In Mathematics 72.3% of our students scored Advanced or Proficient on the California Standards Test, a growth of 4.3% from the previous year. We are very proud of the fact our students exceeded the goal of 68.5% Advanced or Proficient in Math that was established by the Federal Government.
While we are very proud of our accomplishments, there is still room to grow. This year our goal is to have an Average Daily Attendance Rate of 98%, which would represent an increase of .31% from last year. Our goal is to have an API score that exceeds 870. We also are striving to increase the number of students scoring Advanced or Proficient on the California Standards Test in English Language Arts and Math by no less than 5%. I am very confident that we will achieve all of these goals.
Please know that we cannot achieve our goals without the support of our families. Please be sure that your child is here every day on time. We also ask that you work with your child’s teacher to stay informed of your child’s progress and to find ways that you can assist at home.
Oleander is a remarkable school that has come very far over the years. In 1998, our school had the lowest API score in San Bernardino County. With our API score of 841, we have the third highest performing school in our district and one of the highest achieving schools in San Bernardino County. We could not have gotten as far as we have without the hard work of our parents, students and teachers. We invite you to be an active participant at Oleander. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (909) 357-5700.
Sincerely,
Craig Baker
Principal
