Thank you for your cooperation as we adjust to the new single-track school program at Palmetto Elementary School. In previous years, we had a four-track school program with three tracks attending school and one track on track break. With the four-track program, we had approximately 700 students on campus and 200 on break at any given time. Now with the single-track program, we have 900 students attending school all at the same time. We adjusted our dismissal procedures in order to accommodate the increased number of students. We have improved student safety by closing the parking lot during dismissal. Many parents have told us they agree with this decision and that is has improved student safety. However, one of the dismissal procedures dose need to be clarified.
The original dismissal procedures stated that all families should designate a meeting placed outside of the school. This does not mean that all students are forced to leave the school grounds in order to be picked-up after school. It does mean that each family should make a plan that they feel is safe and appropriate for their individual children. All students in grades kindergarten through fifth are allowed to wait on campus until a family member comes on campus to pick them up. Teachers are on duty on Randall Avenue to monitor student safety; however, if you prefer that your fourth or fifth grade student say on campus and not wait for you on Randall Avenue, she/he can wait on campus in front of the school. We are eager to work with each family to insure that you are comfortable with our school policies and procedures. Please share your questions, concerns, or suggestions with us. I can be reached at (909) 357-5710. Parents, teachers, support staff, and site administrators guarantee an outstanding school program for our students by working together!
