Hello Oleander Families!
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year. This year will be a very exciting one in the history of our school. To begin with, on September 14, 2015, Oleander will celebrate its 60th birthday. A 60th year is also known as the diamond celebration. Throughout the year we will honor current and former staff and students for their academic and professional accomplishments.
Our school will continue to focus on developing our student’s ability to read, write, solve math problems and think critically. The school wide instructional focus is writing across content areas. The first strategy we will utilize to meet this goal is the use of Thinking Maps. Once our students have been trained in how to utilize the Thinking Maps they will be able to utilize them to improve reading and math problem solving skills.
Since 1998, student achievement has risen dramatically at Oleander. Last year, our students exceeded district wide growth goals of 50% in Reading, Math and Language. As we move forward our goal is for 60% of our students to meet growth goals in Reading, Math and Language by the end of the school year. While our school had the 4th highest attendance percentage in the district last year, we did not meet our goal of 98%. The goal for this year is to have an average daily rate of attendance of 98%.
Our school has been successful due to the collaboration between our staff, parents and the community. Oleander has a very active PTA and are always looking for new members. Throughout the year our school offers workshops for parents that are designed to give tips on how to help our students succeed. I invite you to come and attend these workshops.

August 10th Update: Mr. Baker has accepted a position working at the District Office, and has left Oleander Elementary. Mr. Baker is to be congratulated for five years of exemplary leadership here at Oleander, and we wish him well in his new venture. While the District searches for his replacement, I will be serving as the Interim Principal. My name is Frank Donahue, and I am a retired Fontana Unified administrator, having served as both a teacher and administrator in FUSD for many years. I will be continuing the programs here at Oleander until a new principal is hired, and I am available to help find a solution should any concerns arise. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org, and of course I can be reached at the Oleander phone number of
