Dear Oleander Families,
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. This year marks the first year of full implementation of the Common Core Standards. With the move to Common Core Standards, report cards, curriculum and the assessment tools utilized to measure student learning will be different. With so many changes occurring, I invite you to be an active participant in our parent meetings.
As we move forward, know that the staff at Oleander continues to strive to provide a superior education to all of our students. As a result of the past collaboration between the staff and parents, student achievement skyrocketed. The impact of the partnership has been incredible. In the past five years Oleander has been recognized as a California Distinguished School in 2010, a Title 1 Achievement School in 2011 and 2012, and has been on the California Business for Education Excellent Honor Roll in 2011, 2012 and 2013. We are also extremely proud of the fact that we have reduced the achievement gap between our students in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
The question I am often asked is “how do you attain the results that you get?” The answers are:
While we have been incredibly successful in the past, our best days are ahead. I am very glad that you and your family are a part of the Oleander community. Looking forward to a great partnership between us.

Recognitions for the Months of January and February
On the afternoon of February 5, 10 Oleander students were taken to Shakey’s Pizza for lunch by Fontana School Police officer Jon MacMillan, Principal Craig Baker and Assistant Principal Julie Hansberger. After enjoying pizza, the students were recognized for their accomplishment. To end it all, the students were provided with tokens so they could enjoy some of the games at Shakeys’s Pizza. Oleander is grateful to Officer MacMillan for his work in establishing this incentive program for our students and taking the time to recognize our students. We are also grateful to the staff at the Shakey’s Pizza at 16940 Slover Avenue, Fontana Ca, for hosting our students. A picture of the ten students recognized with Officer MacMillan and description of their achievement is listed below.
