Dear Oleander Students and Family Members,
I am pleased to share that for the fourth consecutive year Oleander Elementary exceeded the API goal set by the state, of 800. The API score of 827 is the second highest score in our school’s history and is the fourth highest in the district. We were very excited to see the growth our English Language Learners made last year. Currently, 57.9% of our English Language Learners scored proficient in English Language Arts.
We will continue moving forward and raising the bar for student achievement. Our goal for this year is for our API to exceed 850 points. We also are striving to have no less than 63% of our students proficient in English Language Arts and no less than 74% proficient in Math.
We encourage parent involvement. Our school has an active PTA and I encourage you to become involved. PTA raises funds to support our students and promote the positive culture at our school. I also encourage you to attend our monthly SSC, ELAC and Bear Chat meetings. Through these meetings you will become more informed about our school, the programs we offer and to provide you the opportunity to offer your input.
Oleander Elementary School has made tremendous growth since 1998. In 1998 our school had the lowest API score in San Bernardino County. In 2002, less than 10% of our English Language Learners were proficient in English Language Arts. It is no secret that the reason behind the gains we have made is due to the quality service to your child that our staff provides, the hard work of our students and the support from our families. We will continue working together to ensure that we continue moving forward.
