Dear Locust Lions:
Hello and welcome to the 2011-12 school year! This is my fifth year as the principal of Locust Elementary and I am so grateful to work with such dedicated individuals. Locust is committed to EVERY student learning at the highest levels. Our academic program is rigorous and challenging. We expect that every student attending Locust is ready to learn every day. We know that our students must be prepared for a global economy and access to college is a standard that we measure our daily performance. Whether you are new to Locust or returning as a Lion, please join us in helping every student achieve success.
Our mission statement is: “To provide all students with an equitable and high quality education thereby developing the foundation for them to become compassionate, responsible and successful members of society.”
The goal for us is to ensure that every student learns at the highest levels. There are many ways you can help.
Become a partner with us everyday by:
- Bringing your child to school on time. (School starts at 7:40 a.m. for students in grades K-am through 6th).
- If your child misses a day of school, call the office and let them know the reason (909) 357-5650.
- Arrange to have your child make up the day by attending Saturday school.
- WEDNESDAY is our minimum day and students dismissed at 12:00 noon for students in grades 1-6.
- Wear purple on Fridays to celebrate school spirit. You can buy a t-shirt from the PTA before or after school or send money into the office.
- Help your child with his or her homework every day.
- Read with your child everyday, practice Math facts (every third grade student should MEMORIZE multiplication facts) and have them write everyday.
- Listen to what your child talks about at school and ask questions.
- Volunteer at school and in the classroom.
- Get to know your child’s teacher and ask questions.
- Read the information in the Monday envelopes, marquees, and monthly newsletters for school information.
- Praise your child for his or her efforts and celebrate success.
- Attend school-wide events like Back-to-School Night, Family Nights and Academic Night.
- Join the PTA. (The PTA sponsors field trips and special events).
- Be a daily part of the Locust community and help out in any way possible.
- Donate your time, gifts and talents (We always need Kleenex, pencils and paper-- lined and copier).
It is my deepest privilege to serve as the principal of Locust; I love this community, our school, our parents, our staff and our students. If there is anyway that I can assist you, please do not hesitate to call or drop by the office.
With sincerest thanks,
Sandra Gray, Ed.D.
Principal
