The 2010 Census is Coming: Be Counted!

Each year more than $400 billion in federal funds are awarded to states and communities based on Census data. This month, the US Census Bureau will provide all households with a 10 question survey aimed at gathering accurate population data. The questionnaire will ask questions such as name, gender, age, race and ethnicity, for each person living at the property address. The questionnaire does not ask for personal information or citizenship status. The 2010 Census has a direct impact on funding for our schools. During these tight budget times it is especially important that every member of our community is counted. Complete your Census and remember, it’s safe, it’s easy, it’s important, and everyone counts.

El Censo del 2010 se acerca : ¡Hágase contar!

Cada año se otorgan más de $400 billones de dólares a los estados y comunidades basados en los datos del Censo. Este mes el Censo de los Estados Unidos va a proporcionar una encuesta de un cuestionario de 10 preguntas dirigidas para recopilar los datos adecuados de la población. En el cuestionario se le harán preguntas como: su nombre, género, raza y etnicidad por cada persona que vive en la propiedad de su domicilio. El cuestionario no le pide información personal ó estatus de ciudadanía. El Censo 2010 tiene un impacto directo en los fondos para nuestras escuelas. Es muy importante que cada miembro de nuestra comunidad sea contado. Especialmente en este tiempo del presupuesto limitado. Llene el formulario del Censo y recuerde que el Censo es seguro, fácil e importante, y todos cuentan.

Hello Parents,

I have exciting news to share with you regarding our school’s progress.  As you may have read on our marquee or if you follow the news, Hemlock surpassed the “magic 800” mark with a score of 807!  800 is the goal that the federal government set for schools to reach to show they are teaching their students adequately.  I’m very excited for our students and teachers first and foremost because I’m walking through classes every day and seeing how hard our teachers and students are working! Thankfully that hard work is paying off!  While this is great news we’re not going to be content with this but will be working this year to grow beyond that.  Please make sure your kids are in school every day and we’ll do the rest!

Some other news is that I told students and parents that if we ever surpassed the “magic number,” we would be able to have some fun activities.  So hopefully you’re planning on coming to our first which is a Halloween Costume Parade Friday before we go off track!  Hopefully, you’re putting those costumes together and looking forward to seeing our little Huskies having some fun and being creative!

I want to thank everyone for the support they give their children by ensuring they come to school daily ready to learn.  Our main goal is the same as yours; to ensure that your child is safe and gets every opportunity possible for the best education.  Know that my door is always open to parents who have questions or concerns and I look forward to meeting you.
